Container Tonnage Continues to Climb

SAINT JOHN (NB) – In 2013, the Port experienced 60 per cent growth in their container sector.

This year, the upward trend continues.

“In 2012, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) put confidence in Port Saint John. Along with long time stakeholder Tropical Shipping, these lines have shown how vital our port is to the region. Shippers and receivers are using Port Saint John more, that means greater economic activity for our city and province,” Jim Quinn, president and CEO, of Port Saint John, said.

Today, the MSC Maria Laura is arriving at Port Saint John, bringing containers to and from foreign ports. The line is connected to over 350 ports around the world. Tropical Shipping’s AHS Hamburg will be departing, also with containers bound for foreign ports.

Port Saint John is Eastern Canada’s largest port by tonnage and has a diverse cargo base, including dry and liquid bulk, break bulk, containers, and cruise.
