Updates to Port Saint John’s Board of Directors

SAINT JOHN (NB) – Port Saint John is pleased to welcome a new director to the Board and welcome another back for his third term.

Melanie Bell Hughes is joining the Board of Directors by federal appointment. She comes to Port Saint John’s Board of Directors with a wealth of experience in marketing, advertising and business. She has been an owner of Hughes Communications Inc. since 1995, overseeing seven retail locations as Vice-President.

Bell Hughes has experience developing long-term business strategies and liaising with diverse groups of individuals and companies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Brunswick and is an active community volunteer.

Peter Gaulton, chair of the board, has been reappointed for a third term. He is a life-long resident of Saint John, having graduated from Saint John High School and the University of New Brunswick-Saint John with a BBA degree. He is a chartered accountant who has practiced in Saint John for 34 years; additionally, he has owned his accounting firm for the past twenty-three years. Peter has held various management positions in finance and administration for companies in the construction, trucking, and petroleum industries.

Since 2008, Peter has been a member of the Board of Directors at Port Saint John and held positions both as chair of the audit committee and vice chair before becoming chair in March of 2013.

Port Saint John is Eastern Canada’s largest port by tonnage and has a diverse cargo base, including dry and liquid bulk, break bulk, containers, and cruise.
