Access to Information & Privacy

Saint John Port Authority strives to be transparent about our operations and as such, issues annual reports and audited financial statements in accordance with our enabling legislation, these documents are available at a publicly advertised annual meeting and year-round on our website.

Additionally, the federal Access to Information Act and Privacy Act (Acts) both apply to Saint John Port Authority as a Federal Government entity.   Under these Acts, any Canadian citizen, or permanent resident who resides in Canada, or any corporation operating a business in Canada has the right to request access to records of government institutions that are subject to the Access to Information and Privacy Acts.

ANNUAL REPORTS TO PARLIAMENT

Under section 94 of the Access to Information Act and section 72 of the Privacy Act, institutions are required to table Annual Reports to Parliament on its administration of these Acts. Within 30 days of these reports being tabled in Parliament, as per section 84 of the Access to Information Act, institutions are required to electronically publish its annual reports on the administration of both the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act.

MONTHLY SUMMARY REPORTS

Port Saint John is also required to publicly post a monthly summary of Access to Information requests that have been completed under the Access to Information Act.  Refer to the table below for a summary listing of completed requests for which documents have been retrieved or treated.

The list is provided in chronological order, by month and year, and by request number. (Note: Requests focusing on personal information, or proprietary information are not included.

PROACTIVE PUBLICATION – TRAVEL AND HOSPITALITY EXPENSES

Note: The Saint John Port Authority is a financially self-sufficient Federal Government Agency and, as such, any/all travel and hospitality expenditures do not involve taxpayers’ funds.

Proactive publication is a new section in the Access to Information Act to expand the openness and transparency of government information.  It requires federal institutions such as Port Authorities, to proactively publish various types of information that would be of interest to the public via the Open Government Portal.

Under sections 82 of the Access to Information Act, within 30 days after the end of the month in which any travel expenses were incurred by a senior employee of a government institution are reimbursed, the head of the government institution shall cause a report to be published in electronic form.

Under section 83 of the Access to Information Act, within 30 days after the end of the month in which any expenses incurred by a senior officer or employee of a government institution for a hospitality activity are reimbursed, the head of the government institution shall cause a report to be published in electronic form.
