N.B. Artist Fred Harrison Selected For Second Port Saint John Residency at Saint John Arts Centre

Saint John, N.B. – Artist and sculptor Fred Harrison, best known for his stunning murals in the Sussex area, has been selected for the second biannual Port Saint John Artist Residency. In 2020, Port Saint John and the Saint John Arts Centre announced a landmark sponsorship of a signature gallery space at the Saint John Arts Centre, and partnership for a biennial artist residency, where a professional artist would be selected to create original works over a period of 10 months. Each residency includes an exhibition in the Port Saint John Gallery. Fred Harrison’s exhibition will be from September 8 – October 27, 2023. The next residency exhibition will occur in 2025. Paula Copeland, Port Saint John’s Vice President of Engagement and Sustainability, is very pleased to share this next step in the new creative venture.“The aim of the residency is to support community and the arts while elevating profiles and opportunities for New Brunswick artists. The Jury Selection Committee, which consisted of one representative from Saint John Arts Centre and three representatives from Port Saint John, was highly impressed with both the calibre of artists who applied and the high quality of all sixteen submissions for the second residency. We at Port Saint John were also highly impressed by the scope and vision of the chosen artist in creating this new body of work; we look forward to working with Fred over the next ten months, and eventually seeing the work presented at Saint John Arts Centre in the gallery in September 2023.” For background on the partnership with the Saint John Arts Centre and the Port Saint John Artist in Residency program, see this short video (approx. 3 minutes) with interviews: https://youtu.be/oPqGdsZktiU.
