Port Saint John first Canadian port to obtain Occupational Health and Safety ISO Certification

Saint John, N.B. – Port Saint John recently attained ISO 45001:2018 and ISO 14001:2015 Certifications. ISO (International Organization of Standardization) is one of the most rigorous and well-regarded standards in the world. Port Saint John was audited by BSI, and officially presented with certificates for both Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Management Systems on November 21st. These certifications validate that Port Saint John has been vetted against global benchmarks of industry excellence. As the first Port in Canada to achieve the Occupational Health and Safety Management System ISO certification, the port’s commitment to safety and environment goes beyond industry expectations.

“With port-wide wellness and safety leadership and decarbonization as two of our new strategic objectives, we are proud to receive ISO certification in both areas. As we strive to be a catalyst for growth and a leader in our industry these certifications ensure that our management systems are designed to prevent workplace injuries and to provide safe and healthy environments for our employees and community,” said Craig Bell Estabrooks, President and CEO at Port Saint John.

“Health, safety and environment has been top of mind for the port as we worked towards these certifications. The ISO process allowed us to validate our commitment to operate in a safe and environmentally responsible manner throughout every aspect of our business,” says Kelly Leger, Health, Safety and Environment Manager at Port Saint John.

To ensure that the health, safety and environment management systems at Port Saint John continue to meet or exceed standards, they will be evaluated by an external auditor on an annual basis.
