Update on task force examining American Iron and Metal operation issues

04 October 2023

FREDERICTON (GNB) – The task force examining the events at American Iron and Metal (AIM) on Sept. 14 met again last Friday.

The following updates are being reported:

·         The task force has retained Jeffrey Earle of Dillon Consulting to lead the environmental site assessment. With over 25 years of experience, specifically in site contaminant management, Earle will work alongside Rob Simonds as the task force proceeds with its full investigation.

·         The task force is releasing the five-day report submitted by AIM. This report was required by the government as a followup to the initial 24-hour report.

·         The Department of Environment and Local Government is conducting soil sampling at the nearby community garden to test for any contaminants.

The task force continues to meet on a regular basis and will provide further updates when appropriate.
